Mid-Oceanic Ridges

This week we're focusing on Mid-Oceanic ridges. I'm just learning about mid-oceanic ridges, so I'm not sure if I'm completely off base here, or if I'm remotely close. In this week's learning I'm not sure if I found it more fascinating that people actually have discovered this part of the world or if I was fascinated more by wondering if there was a way to watch the formation of mid-oceanic ridges and trenches in real time, with a time lapse.

I looked at plate tectonics over by the Philippines and found it pretty interest. Here's a screenshot from Google Earth and what I hope I was able to identify.

 VOLCANOES!!!!! This week we are learning about volcanoes. I have a friend who's absolutely obsessed with volcanoes. For this weeks GeoJournal I decided to interview her and with her permission I'm sharing her video and pictures.  My friend's husband was stationed in Hawaii for four years in the Navy, so she was able to go see the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and see live lava flowing from Mount Kilauea. She told me this particular volcano has been flowing for several years and it's a shield volcano. In 2016 they took a 90 minute guided boat ride from the boat harbor to where the lava was flowing into the ocean from Mount Kilauea. Upon arrival to the site they were able to get about 985 feet to where the lava was flowing into the ocean. She said from the boat they could feel the heat and the tour boat guide grabbed a bucket of water from the spot they were at and she said the water from the bucket was very hot. Plate Tectonics in the News

 We're looking at Plate Tectonics in the News! In this article I found, it talks about the Snowy Range Mountains that are south of Laramie Wyoming and have phenomenal fishing. This article explains that there were two convergent plate collisions over two billion years in what we know in Wyoming as the Snowy Range. One collision happened and then another happened in the same area that lifted the range again. Science vs. Religion

 The Bible teaches us that the earth was created over the span of six days. However, we learn from science that the Earth is 4.6 billion years old. This is a large discrepancy between what we are taught by the Bible and Prophets and Apostles.  I have learned something through my study of the gospel and this class. We as humans perceive time differently than what time perception is for Heavenly Father and the creator of the Earth, his son Jesus Christ. We are taught that one day in heaven is 1 thousand years to us, that still does not match up with how old the Earth is estimated to be, but that calculation could be off or was lost in when the Bible was compiled. As we know the Bible is true as long as it's been translated correctly. Many things were left out of the Bible and that's where many plain and precious truth's were lost when King James ordered the Bible be wrote by the scholars he commissioned to write it.
